Privacy Policy
Validation.com inc. offers a platform and services to help businesses securely upload and review personal information. We collect data about our customers (“Users”, “Customers” or “Partners”) and their customers (“Consumers”) when they use our platform and services (collectively “Services”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, process, and disclose data, including personal information. If you do not agree with the practices described in this policy, you should not use our Services.
In this policy, the use of “we”, “our”, or “us” refers to Validation.com inc. While we include information collected in relation to Consumers, our customers are our Users. Accordingly, under the GDPR, our Users are considered Data Controllers and we are Data Processors on their behalf. If you are a Consumer, you must contact the User/Partner with whom you have the direct relationship. Validation.com has no control over their business practices, their relationship with you or access to information submitted pursuant to a request by such Partner.
1 – Overview
Validation.com provides a secure environment for Partners to upload and review personal information related to their customers. For example, Partners may use our services to verify the identity of a Consumer. Our platform and related services are built so that only our Partner has access to the Consumer information that has been uploaded. Validation.com does not have the ability to access, download or review this information. We did this by design. This way, a Consumers relationship remains with the Partner.
2 – Information we collect
When a Partner uses our Services, they will initiate the process by sending a link directly to their Consumer. This link provides access to a tool that will request information that verifies a Consumer’s identity. Information requested may include images of your government issued ID, passport, national ID card, or driving license, as permitted by applicable laws, photos of you, and/or other authentication information (“Data”.) By sending this link to a Consumer, our Partner, is requesting that we collect this information on their behalf and is the Controller of such information.
3 – How do we use information we collect
We use, store, and process information, including personal information as described above about Consumers to provide identity verification and fraud detection services to our Partners. Data submitted is only accessible by the Partner who initiated a request. We have no access to the Data to review, download or directly process.
Partner may use our Services to verify identities for individuals who need account access and where it is necessary for the adequate performance of a Partner’s contract with a Consumer. Partner may also use our Services to detect and prevent fraud, spam, abuse, security incidents, and other harmful activity or conduct security investigations and risk assessments. We process this information at the direction of our Partner who’s basis for processing is the legitimate interest in protecting their Consumer accounts, to measure the adequate performance of their contract with a Consumer, and to comply with applicable laws.
4 – Sharing & Disclosure
4.1 – With Your Consent
When verification is requested by a Partner, Consumers agree, by choosing to use our verification services, that we may collect and store their information, including personal information, for access and review by such Partner.
4.2 – Law Enforcement & Legal Requests
Law enforcement and legal requests for access to information must be submitted directly to the Partner who uses Validation.com Services. We have no ability to source, access and/or identify information submitted by a Consumer. Validation.com does, however, implement automatic retention rules when fraud is suspected in relation to Data submitted. Data retained under these rules must still be accessed and retrieved by working directly with the related Partner.
5 – Data Retention and Eradure
We generally retain Data for as long as is necessary for the performance of verification services and to comply with our or our Partner’s legal obligations. A Partner may also download information submitted according to their own data practices and legal requirements and/or fraud prevention. Please see the privacy policy of the relevant Partner to understand their practices. Data that is ready to delete in our systems will be automatically anonymized and all personal identifiers will be deleted. Partners will no longer have access to the Data, though they may have details of the outcome of the verification request within their account panel.
If you are a Consumer who has been asked to use our Services, you acknowledge and agree that Validation.com does not have the ability to access or erase your data. All such requests must be directed to the related Partner.
6 – Operating Globally
Validation.com operates out of the United States. By using our services, Consumers and Partners acknowledge and agree to the collection, processing, use and retention of Data within the US. Data which may be downloaded by a Partner may or may not be within the US or within a Consumer’s country of residence. Data protection guidelines over Data which is downloaded will be governed by the privacy and data practices of the related Partner.
7 – Security
Validation.com believes the users of our service; and their security, are key to everything we do as a company.
From the use of leading technological encryption and security practices, to customer facing basics like 128-bit SSL browser security at all times; Validation.com actively works hard every day to ensure that we treat your (and your customer’s) information as if we were a bank.
8 – Changes to this Privacy Policy
Validation.com reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time in accordance with this provision. If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will post the revised Privacy Policy on this site.
9 – Contact Us
If you have any questions or complaints about this Privacy Policy, you may email us or contact us at: [email protected]
Note to Consumers: Validation.com cannot answer questions related specifically to your Data or the practices enforced with the related Partner.
